Gora Datta, HL7 International Ambassador, is the founding Chairman and CEO of CAL2CAL group of companies (estd. 1996 in California, USA: http://www.cal2cal.com) – a multi-national innovative ICT products and solutions organization with subsidiary and offices in Australia, Canada, India, UK & USA.
He is an accomplished, creative and visionary executive with 26 years of international professional experience in the field of Computing and Software Engineering. His global professional experience spans many countries - Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, France, Greece, India, Kuwait, Philippines, New Zealand, Singapore, UK, and USA (over 22 years in the US).
Gora is an author of multiple technical papers published in international journals. He is also invited to speak as a thought leader and subject matter expert on e-health & mobile ICT. He has made presentations at various international conferences, workshops & seminars; & has taught courses at leading Universities around the globe.
As an HL7 International Ambassador, he is an authorized speaker of the organization. As a representative of International Chambers of Commerce to the UN World Summit on Information Society (WSIS:Tunis 2005), he has been quoted by press across the world on his thoughts on business opportunities in the emerging markets. Gora has won many international awards e.g., the HL7 International 2009 Volunteer of the Year, IEEE 2008 Certificate of Appreciation, 2005 Best paper Award at HL7 International Healthcare Conference, Taiwan to name a few.
Gora plays crucial roles on the advisory boards of the following programs:
a) “Health Information Management” Graduate Master’s of Science Program, School of Information Systems and Technology, Claremont Graduate University, USA.
b) Digital Telehealth Project, University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia.
As an eHealth, public health and ICT subject matter expert, Gora has provided consultancy to & collaborated with large governmental organizations (like the County of Los Angeles, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, USA; Ministry of Finance, Government of India) and multi-lateral agencies (like The World Bank, WHO, UNICEF) to name a few. He focuses on mobile technology based, cost effective, standards based open solutions for social protection and healthcare delivery in both developed and developing world.
Gora is a representative of USA (as Country Delegate) at ISO Health Informatics committee: TC 215. He is also a Senior Member of both ACM and IEEE; and a member of US ANSI-HITSP Panel (American National Standards Institute – Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel) and the HITSP Consumer Preference Tiger team.
As a global healthcare IT standards developer, Gora volunteer’s some of his time to Standards Development Organizations (SDO) like HL7 International and ISO Healthcare Informatics Technical Committee TC 215: co-Lead HL7 EHR Interoperability Group & Co-coordinator HL7 eLearning Course HL7 member of EHR (Electronic Health Record) Work Group, PHR (Personal Health Record) Work Group, PHER Work Group (Public Health & emergency Response), Marketing Council, Education Committee and the International Mentoring Committee co-Lead (and USA representative) to ISO/TC215 Task Force on PHR Technical Specification USA representative to ISO/TC215 Task Force on eHealth Enterprise Architecture for Emerging & Developing Countries
He is a Science (MS Honors) and Engineering (B.E. Honors) alumnus of B.I.T.S., Pilani, India.
