This Datathon will provide an introduction to the use of HL7® FHIR® (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) to access clinical data to support informatics research activities and allow participants to evaluate how FHIR can support research. Examples of research questions that could be explored include:

  • Can you find patients in the test data set that match eligibility criteria for a clinical trial?
  • Can you match phenotypic characteristics of a patient (medications, demographics, problem lists, physical examination findings, labs, etc.) to identify patients who might be good candidates for genetic testing?
  • Can you link demographic and GPS information to determine possible clustering of diseases or of risk factors?
